Phoenix Downs do not bring the dead back to life, they cure the character of the KO Status. Not even remotely the same.

That item sort of doesn't exist in FF - it is can only be used in battles and not used or mentioned outside of them.

It is just a game balance plug cuz if the game had char's permadeath in combat, it would've been impossible to beat with the FF-7 (or any other FF - they rather simplistic games, mechanics wise) combat system.

Karikiri is a Sephiroth archetype... his mom was alien and his dad human. Inherited his mom's cloning abilities. Super strong. Killed the MC love interest with a stab to the back. Messes around with time. Pretty sure FFVIIR reference is intended to gives us clues to inspiration for this anime

He said it at the funeral that he went to the Tokyo Game Show when he relates Shinpei for having gone to Tokyo a year before as well . It's kind of the big hint they throw at you but it's so subtle and easily forgettable to actually feel relevant.. I mean Shide who in Shadow form always ends making comments about game references. In this episode he's suppose to mention enjoying FPS games too. Obviously he likes using multiple guns to kill people as a Shadow and his goals aren't much better then Sephiroth's. lol.

Now that you mention it, there was always hints from his dialogue when he talks about things in game references. Wow.

Yep. Shide was an FPS gamer and FF7 fan. Only one character asides Shinpei mentions gaming and stated about the Tokyo Game Show that's an actual major gaming event that happens every year.
